MANICURING COURSE OUTLINE AND OBJECTIVES

DESCRIPTION:

The Manicuring Course is 600 hours in 20 weeks. The primary purpose of the Manicuring Course is to train the student in the basics of safety requirements and proper work habits necessary to pass the State Board exam and for competency in job entry level positions in manicuring, pedicuring, nail extensions and nail art. The State of Louisiana requires at least 500 hours, but our course requires 600 hours to develop skills needed to be competitive in the field of Manicuring.

COURSE GOALS:

          To develop in each student, theoretical and applicable knowledge and skill in the actual practice of manicuring and pedicuring necessary for successful entry and continual employment as a Nail Technician, Pedicurist, Salon Owner, Manufacturer Representative or Manager of a Nail Salon.

          To develop in each student, the technical skills and knowledge necessary for the diagnosis and application of cosmetic preparations related to the hands, feet, and nails.

          3. To prepare students to successfully pass the State Board examination.

          4. To develop employer / employee relationships and effective communication skills.

INSTRUCTIONAL TECHNIQUES AND METHODS:

The course is presented through well-developed lesson plans which, reflect current trends and educational methods. Clinic equipment, implements and products are compatible to those currently being used in the industry. Subjects are presented by demonstration, workshops, lectures, discussion, written & practical exams, guest speakers, and audio visual aids.

EVALUATION PROCEDURES:

Students are assigned theory study and a minimum number of practical experiences. Theory is evaluated after each unit of study. Practical assignments are evaluated according to the practical grading criteria. Students must maintain an average of 80% in theory, practical and clinic work. Students must pass a final written and practical exam with a grade of at least 80%. Students are given a progress report every month and graded according to the following system:

E - Excellent 94-100%, G - Good 87-93%, S - Satisfactory 80-86%, U - Unsatisfactory 0-79%.

To help you make a good decision about whether to enroll in the Manicuring program you need to know that, according to the latest information:

67% or 4 of the 6 students scheduled to graduate in 2005 went on to graduate;

25% or 1 of the 4 2005 graduates who were eligible for employment have found jobs in the industry;

80% or 4 of the 5 students of this program taking the state board exam in 2005 passed the examination.
