MISSION STATEMENT

The vision of Guy’s Academy is to provide quality career education and skill development to motivated students in high demand career fields. The primary goal of our school is to train the career minded individual and offer an education that will provide for an employable, responsible and accountable person.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

You need to be aware of a few physical demands related to the field of Cosmetology arts and sciences. The main areas of stress are the back, neck, shoulders, wrists, feet and legs. Being in good physical condition will help to alleviate any problems. Also, we suggest support hose and shoes be worn to reduce strain and pressure.

SAFETY REQUIREMENTS

We will teach you how to protect your clients and yourself through proper sanitation and sterilization practices. You will be responsible for the proper sanitizing of all your tools and implements. Gloves should be worn during chemical procedures and anytime there is a possible contact with any bodily fluids. You will share in the responsibility of keeping all areas of the school, not just your personal workspace, neat and clean.

COMPENSATION

According to the 2003 Job Demand Survey conducted by the National Accrediting Commission of Cosmetology Arts & Sciences the salon industry grosses about $56 billion per year. The survey also reported that in 2002 the salary for full-time salon professionals was $36,360.00, inclusive of tips. For salon owners that figure was $48,720.00. Survey results also reported that more than 572,900 open positions were filled in 2003. Spa business is booming! Recently ISPA released a Price Waterhouse Cooper analysis of the spa industry at its ISPA 2002 conference. Revenue has increased 100% from $5 billion in 1999 to $10.7 billion in 2001. Revenue for 2004 is estimated to be at $14 billion.

LICENSING REQUIREMENTS

After completing the required number of clock hours and being accepted for examination, you will take a state and federal written exam as well as a practical exam given by the Louisiana State Board of Cosmetology. After successfully completing all phases of the exam you will receive a license in the field for which you were trained. License’s must be renewed annually on your birthday.
